Atlanta Cuisine is one of my favorite local publications. Each month, Tom Maicon and his gang put together a fine collection of articles. In the past, Tom has admitted that their branding is somewhat dated. That is all about to change. Though I have not had a look myself, word is that their redesign should hit the web sometime towards the early part of next week. I am not sure if this redesign extends to the actual publication.
If you go to check it out, be sure to look in at their forums. It gets a small number of posts each day and there is plenty of good information on it. Though I have been known to post every now and then, I spend most of my time as a lurker.
Good luck to AC and I look forward to checking out the new digs.

For the past few weeks, Jimmy over at EatItAtlanta.com has been giving up his health and his cash in the name of public service. Jimmy has been touring various Atlanta pizza joints like there is no tomorrow; that can’t be good for his health. As I write this, he has added six reviews to his Atlanta Pizza Days series. All of them are in depth, include some great pictures, and provide a breakdown of each pizza joint (sauce, cheese, crust, etc…).
He has yet to visit Rosa’s, my current favorite, so I will be curious to hear his take. Will he man up to try the Carnivore challenge up at Big Pie In The Sky (internal)? Most mortals need to forgo food for a few days to even have a remote chance of downing a 1/4 of that pizza. Adding in that 30-inch gigantor to the rotation would basically double the amount of pizza he has consumed for this tour. Yikes!!!

So OpenTable, everyone’s favorite online reservation system for restaurants (is there a viable alternative?), is going public. According to TechCrunch, they want to raise $40 million with their IPO. I will be shocked if that happens.
I looked over the finances myself and I don’t see it happening. Speaking specifically to the product: I love their service, but their lack of 15-minute intervals leaves me frustrated. I’ll be curious to see how their expansion beyond the states goes. It’s a welcomed service, but that’s about it for me. I’m far from a financial expert but I don’t expect much. It’ll be interesting to see their market cap.

On Monday, Serpas True Food said "Hello World” over at Studioplex. As you have figured out by now, I make it a point to check out most new hot spots sooner than later. Last night was just such a night; I performed my civic duty and made my way down to the Old 4th Ward to check out the spot. Since I am well versed on Scott Serpas’ prior engagements, I had no problem giving this place a cold call [that is – I had not read any reviews/previews that discussed food, decor, etc…]. However, I have taken a peak at a few since my meal.

ResearchBuzz has created a custom search engine geared toward cooking. You can find the engine here. This is a great way to create a meal based on what is in your refrigerator. I’ve been reasonably impressed with the results. Details after the jump! If any of you are on an extendable browser, I will be happy to help you add this search engine to your browser. In the meantime, for those of you on firefox … check out this page on how to create bookmarks with keywords.

In addition to a new spot in East Atlanta and one in Washington DC, Richard Blais proclaimed Austin, Texas as the luckily winner in the FLIP burger boutique sweepstakes. As this burger bug continues to spread, we can only wish Richard the best. I myself am starting to get a little frustrated with this whole burger thing; however, I love his game, so let’s hope for good things. Congrats on your success Richard!!!!

The past few months, I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time looking at the Madrid Fusion website. Well, the event has wrapped and the food scene is abuzz. Many great American chefs took part in the conference: Grant Achatz, David Chang, Harold McGee, and Jose Andres all made appearances. Of particular interest to those in Atlanta, Sotohiro Kosugi, to whom I swear an unabashed allegiance, was invited! Kosugi, now entrenched in New York, was asked to perform along David Chang of Momofuku. The dynamic duo was asked show off for a crowd of some of the most well respected foodies in the world. From what I have read, they knocked this one out of the park!!!! More after the jump …

Event to be held Friday, January 30th from 5pm-9pm
A few days ago, word spread that Parker’s on Ponce Steakhouse was gearing up for a fundraiser to help their friends over at 5th Earl Market. Last week, a fare started over at Trackside Tavern, neighbor to the 5th. That fire did some serious damage (image via pdf). Well, on the heels of last nights humbling, yet successful fundraiser (internal) in honor of John Henderson, the gang at Parker’s is spreading the love! Map, event details, and message from the David and Brian after the jump.

If you’ve read my blog, you know I don’t care for desserts. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy reading about desserts. Enter CackWrecks! There isn’t just one post that “takes the cake” (HA! I said it … what do you have to say to that). Instead, here are just a smattering of images to wet your appetite. Be sure to spend some time over there.

Last night, I met a few buddies over at Craftbar for some drinks, a nibble of food, and a touch of stuffiness. Craftbar and Craft, the big brother that looms upstairs, are Atlanta’s versions of Chef Tom Colicchio’s New York flagship. I went with high expectations; based on our brief flirtation, I am anxious to see how this potential love affair develops. Despite a hiccup (or two), there is enough promise here to warrant at least a couple of return trips.
