HELP: Kick A Blogger Out Of Atlanta Before June 19 2

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 29, 2009

Ladies and Gents, we have a situation on our hands.  A man by the name of Hardy Wallace thinks it’s Goode To Be First. That greedy bastard, a.k.a. Mr. Wallace, more commonly referred to round these parts as Dirty from DirtySouthWine.com, wants to stick it to all us from the ATL.  He wants out.  So let’s kick his arse to the curb.

The details are as follows: Murphy-Goode Winery (website) is offering up a six-month job out in Sonoma.  A whole slew of wine nerds applied and it’s our job to decide who wins.  Currently, some chick out of Tampa is in the lead … and that needs to change.

I’m a little sick of HW’s attitude.  The lack of pretention, the approachableness, the in-depth knowledge, the relaxed laughs, and the can-do attitude are all a little sickening.  I really can’t stand it … so please readers … help kick Dirty out of Atlanta.

If this fermented grape doesn’t come back to the ATL after his six-month jail sentence, I’ll personally smack him some kind of senseless.  After all, while you can take Dirty out of the South, you can’t take the South out the Dirty.

Steamhouse Lounge Restaurant Review – Midtown, Atlanta, GA [From The Archives] 2

Crawfish Shack Seafood Restaurant Review – Buford Highway, Atlanta, GA [First Impressions] 3

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 28, 2009

I swear I don’t eat out every meal!  Really, I don’t.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the topic at hand: Crawfish Shack Seafood on Buford Highway.  When most ATLiens think of casual seafood eateries, Six Feet Under, Fontaine’s and Steamhouse Lounge usually reign supreme [Speaking of which … I think I’ll pull my Steamhouse review off the book shelf and post it here].  Needless to say, none of those places blow my britches up.

Enter the Crawfish Shack.  Despite a most unusual location and one of the more a-typical owners for a restaurant of this type, this Cajun-centric Creole restaurant has already developed a strong following.  Open approximately nine months, it was high time I gave it a shot.  Yesterday, Papa Buddha decided to have a little male bonding.  The results were mixed, but ultimately positive.

The Foodie Buddha … Apparently In Restaurant Form [Not Me]

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 27, 2009

Dublin, Ireland is obviously the most elevated culinary environment in the world.  To deal with the amazingness that is Dublin, Canadian born Claudia Marion has opened a little gourmet shop.  The name, as you may have guessed, is in fact “The Foodie Buddha.”  Wonder if I have a case for trademark infringement … hmmmm?

Get A Sneak Peek At Staplehouse Restaurant 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 26, 2009

Word travels these days.  Recently, I was turned onto a relatively new supper club by the name of A Prelude To Staple House (alternatively: staplehouse.com).  Run by Atlanta chef Ryan Hidinger and his boss (echemm… wife) Jenifer, Prelude popped up in early January.  With roughly six meals under their belts (as of the 31st), it looks things are moving along well.

I have yet to make it to one of these events (they keep filling up), but I still think it’s worth mentioning.  With some hard work and a little bit of luck, the couple is hoping to open a restaurant of their own in the near future.  More after the jump!

RogueApron Goes Manhattan … Sort Of 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 25, 2009

Rogue Apron, one of Atlanta’s best known supper clubs, is going strong.  A year or so after launching, the site is getting a lot of love.  Meal By Meal out of the NYC just posted a cool little interview with Lady Rogue.  It’s definitely worth a read.

While I have yet to get in on one of these things, I did manage to score a slice of pie.  The idea of a supper club isn’t new, and while many think their time has passed, RogueApron is proof to the contrary.  So go get on the mailing list and see what it’s all about.

Buckhead Pizza Co. Restaurant Review In Atlanta, GA [First Impressions] 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 24, 2009

It’s a holiday weekend, so this will be a real quick post: no pictures, no elaborate descriptions, no pomp or circumstance.  Family Buddha decided to go grab some lunch on Friday.  On a recommendation, we hit up the Buckhead Pizza Company in, you guessed it, Buckhead.

Oddly situated in the Realm building, you have to pull off Peachtree to get a view of the restaurant.  There is a parking deck just past the restaurant that offers 1-hour complimentary parking.  There is complimentary valet there as well; though, I imagine that an hour is ample time for most diners.

We were greeted by Baton Bob’s daughter.  Decked out in a full pink tutu-esc dress, I have no idea how the owners let her in.  Still, the hilarity of the scene was priceless.  I’m not gonna fuddle with the decor much.  It’s an attempt at fine dining pizza.  Some will like it, some will hate it, and most, I suspect, will care less.  Count me amongst the latter crowd.

The menu here is immense and pretty straightforward.  For some reason, nobody can just use the word appetizer anymore.  Instead, you have “small plates.”  Beyond those choices (and an appetizer section), you have standard “chain” Italian cuisine.  Pastas, salads, sandwiches, and flatbreads dot the menu.  They actually differentiate between their lunch menu and their dinner menu.  Not sure why.

But of course, this is a pizza joint, so that was what we focused on.  Each of us ordered a half-salad, and the experience set the precedence for the meal.  Early comments were: “This is good” and “I like it.”  Then everyone’s head turned toward me … can’t a guy just eat a meal and not have to think about it?  Ughghgh … alas, you cannot take me anywhere.  I think my initial descriptor was “bleh.”  The lettuce was bagged and the dressing was bottled.  Similar comments followed from my step-mother and then my pops.  I would forgo the salad option.

Between the four of us, we split two medium pizzas.  With a dozen or so pre-itemized pizzas and the inevitable make your own option, the combinations here are extensive in number.  Most of the pre-selected pizzas have cutesy names that give you little to no indication of what’s included.  They come in just above the standard options.  For example, you’ll find things like cilantro, caramelized onions, and gulf shrimp.  We settled on the Margharita and a custom built mushrooms, onions, and ground beef.  The pizzas arrived at the same time and were placed on a two-tiered pie tray.

While my three compadres first went for the custom pie, I hit the Margharita, the true test of any decent pizza place.  Topped with full slices of tomato, I was apprehensive.  I took one bite and instantaneously knew what we had: glorified Dominoes.  The sauce had nearly burned off … too much water in it.  Meanwhile, the tomatoes on top were dried out.  The crust was uniformly crisp, so that was a plus.

I grabbed a slice of the mushrooms, onions, and ground beef.  This was a much better pie; ultimately, I would call it decent at best.  The beef itself was nice and crumbly, just like I want it on a pizza.  Still, the sauce is nothing to write home about and the dough is run of the mill.

Meanwhile, everyone else held true to form.  To nervous to let their inner critic out, they affirmed their delight and then turned to me for the inevitable.  By the time we walked out, the group seemed to agree that the place was far from destination worthy.  One person uttered: “I certainly won’t be back anytime soon” It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t notable, and it wasn’t moving.  Better than Pizza Fusion, they did manage a decent crowd by the time we walked out.  As BPC delivers within a 4-mile radius, I would consider hitting them up next time I’m watching the dawgs … in the meantime, eat at your own risk.
