Canoe Gets Hit Hard By Inclement Weather [Breaking News] 14

Posted by foodiebuddha on September 21, 2009

This weather has been a harbinger.  With news of at least four deaths in the metro area, we need to put these things in perspective.  Still, this is a food blog, so that’s what we’re here to talk about.

Not surprisingly, a ton of flood tweets are popping up under the twitter term #atlflood.  One that has particularly caught my eye, and that of a bunch of other people, was a picture of the ever popular Canoe.  The picture, which comes to us from Jessica Dauler of JessicaShops.com, shows us just how bad this weather has been.  As a quick note, I’d hyper link to Jessica’s website, but it seems to be down at the moment!  In the meantime, hit her up on twitter.

Not quite as devastating is her picture of Ray’s on the River.  We’ll have to see what kind of affect this will have on Canoe, and other area restaurants.

Hopefully, Canoe will rebuild. What a treasure…Thank you for the great video…Couldn’t see in the daylight, because of the traffic problems.

Oh no!!!! and I just spoke with Exec chef Carvel Gould of Canoe…..inviting me to a celebratory dinner on Thursday in her new vegetable gardens!!!
I’m praying for you Carvel and the whole staff of Canoe. I do remember years ago….the last flood…..a photo of then Exec chef Gary Mennie walking along the area in photo above surveying the flood with a cup of Starbuck’s in hand.
    Oh boy!

I used to be a server at Canoe several years ago and recall the river rising so much that it flooded both the patio and a little bit inside the restaurant. I was amazed that although the restaurant was closed for a day or two, Canoe was able to reopen rather quickly. This seems much worse, and I hope the Canoe will quickly recover from this.

Canoe is one of Atlanta’s real treasures. This is so tragic. I hope they are able to come back even stronger and that our community continues to support them whole heartedly. Chef carvel is one of the most talented chefs, and the wait staff is incredibly professional. The wine selection is outstanding, and the bar is fantastic. Good luck to all! I’ll be there when you come back.

My daughter’s wedding and reception is scheduled at Canoe in March. By then (hopefully) everything will completely be back to normal. It’s such a beautiful venue with terrific food and ambiance.
