I have lived a mile from TBP for 7 years and it is horrible. I havent been there in two years after giving them multiple chances for redemption… Every server has ADD, food is overpriced and average, baked goods are horrible, and the bagels are below average. You can get H&H bagels from the Jewish Grocery Store right down LaVista Rd that are 10 times better. You should’ve nailed this place because it is horrible and overpriced.

I hear that on the baker’s doozen. More importantly, and i’m a bit ashamed to say this, but I’ve never touched their bialys. I can’t even explain why now that i think of it.

I do enjoy H&H, but because I order more than just bagels, and not all of it is kosher, I usually stick to Zabar’s since they offer both. That said, I’m probably a little preferential to Zs, but that’s like comparing diamonds to gold – they’re both damn impressive

I think that the stereotype finds its roots in the spice rack necessary to season most “Jewish” dishes. It’s further extended by the foundation of the cuisine being Kashrut law. The resulting examples are in fact mild; however, mild does not equal bland. Even so, a good chopped liver is anything but mild, and a top notch parve knish is the bomb!

Relative to their immediate competition, the bagels are pretty good. Stacked up against a wider competition base, and I think most people will not find them anywhere close to noteworthy. I agree that the food there is better than Goldberg’s, but I wouldn’t say it’s a whopping victory for BP. I agree that Goldberg’s is overrated. As always, thanks for reading!

Not sure where the stereotype that jewish food is “bland and under-seasoned” comes from, but its probably from someone that has clearly never had good jewish food. Couldn’t be further from the truth.

Being from New York, I do think that TBP serves up some mean bagels and bialy’s. Plus, unlike many other local/chain bakeries, they actually know how many in a baker’s dozen. You say you order from Zabar’s… have you ever tried the bagels from H&H? Very expensive to ship, but if you are actually in NYC they are just a few doors down from Zabar’s. And H&H bagels ROCK!

Wow, FB … I’ve been to New York myself, and I think Bagel Palace is pretty good. I always enjoy their delicious matzo ball soup, and the whitefish is very flavorful.

While their bagels aren’t quite on par with the long-lost Royal Bagel that used to be in Ansley ages ago, in my opinion, they are the best bagel that I currently know of in Atlanta. I say that hailing all the way from the Roswell/Alpharetta area — Toco Hills is quite a drive for me, but Bagel Palace is worth the occasional effort. I think BP is far, far better than Goldberg’s, which I feel is overrated.

To each his/her own, I suppose.
