Julia Child Remix: The Rapping Cooking Video 1

Posted by Foodie Buddha on August 14, 2012

So Julia Child, the now defunct Grand Dame of all things cookery, has a new music video out.  Despite hitting the century mark tomorrow (August 15th), she remains incredibly spry for a dead lady.

Witness:

So take that Tupac, because if you’re going to come back from the grave, forget those silly NOT holograms and go with the autotuned rap video meets cooking video mashup.

Olmsted & Article 14 : Two New Atlanta Restaurants, One Midtown Location [Openings] 5

Posted by Foodie Buddha on August 06, 2012

So what we have here is more “coming soon” news in the form of Olmsted and Article 14 (two separate Atlanta restaurants).  To be honest, I can’t stand writing this stuff as it makes me sound like a stodgy journalist … something I’m most definitely not (on either front). Be that as it may, the situation is that these two compadres are getting inserted into Symphony Tower (aka – 1180 Peachtree) in the not too distant future.

A few months back, the biz chronicle broke word that Legacy Restaurant Partners (STATS, Max’s, Glenn’s Kitchen, etc.) planed to open a restaurant in the former Trois space in Midtown.  Seeing as it’s a cavernous “room”(something like 14,000 square feet), it’s not a total surprise to hear that there are two restaurants going in.  There’s a little bit more to be said … so click that little linky thing that says “continue reading” if you fancy yourself curious.

How To Make Yelp Interesting [Updated]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on July 28, 2012

How do you make Yelp worth reading?  Simple … have someone else do the reading for you.  In this case, we have actor Chris Kipiniak putting his dramatic spin on a 1-star review for the Stratford Diner in Stratford, NJ.  The review in question comes courtesy the one and done Dalia B.  Maybe this new found form of internet fame will coax her out of retirement.

Save to foursquare

UPDATE: and another one is now live featuring Therese Plummer. So yeah, these are b-level (at best) actors but they’re still pretty awesome … check it out:

BATON Supper Series: Ramen Time with Ivan Orkin

Gato Tokyo Bizco

When I told Spark Plug not to leave the city this month, I meant it.  Did she listen? No, no she didn’t.  When she reads this, am I going to get an international phone call shortly thereafter at which time I will be dressed down? Admittedly, I did not tell her exactly why … so for that I’ll grant her a brief reprieve. [yes, I can keep secrets y’all, even from my best of friends].  But let’s move on and stop twisting the knife in that poor girl’s heart.  Her loss is our gain (as an extra-seat is available).

BATON Supper Club at Candler Park’s Gato Bizco Café is back (for Monday, June 25th and Tuesday, June 26th) and this one might be the biggest coup yet! [I feel like I say that every time they announce one of those things].

Now that my reservations are in place, I am happy to share with y’all the details for the latest rendition of the show.

GA’s Jack McBrayer + Triumph Go For Insulting Hot Dogs

Posted by Foodie Buddha on June 16, 2012

The other night, Conan O’Brien recruited Georgia boy Jack McBrayer (the page on 30 Rock) to join Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at Chicago’s famed Wieners Circle, a hot dog stand with an attitude.  No doubt, Triumph is my favorite member of Conan’s entourage.  So it stands as no surprise that this bit turned out fan-freaking-tastic.  The Robert Smigel voiced puppet is as bad as they come; and, when paired with the softly presented McBrayer, we are treated to comic gold.  Check it out!

If you haven’t heard of the Wieners Circle, I strongly suggest you listen to This American Life’s episode on the NSFW eatery.  Meanwhile, if you don’t have an hour, and really just want some laughs … stick to the video containing the sweet piece of comic genius.

Nava Closing In Buckhead, Ford Fry The Likely Replacement + Some Not So Little Sushi News 5

Posted by Foodie Buddha on June 12, 2012

nava interior

Factoid: Nava, the longstanding “Southwestern” eatery from the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, is headed for the land of restaurants past.  While I don’t think anyone from BLRG has officially gone on record, this has been rumored and considered by many people over the past months and years.  The rumors are dead because this is now a fact.  Nava is closing in August despite (or perhaps b/c of) the revitalization that’s happening in Buckhead.  Because of that revitalization, Nava’s demise is not the only part to this story.

You see, one might argue that the intersection of Peachtree and East/West Paces Ferry is in fact the epicenter of Atlanta’s ritziest zip code. 3060 Peachtree Rd (the building that houses Nava) has kind of gotten the “Up” treatment in recent years; so you know someone was going to jump at the opportunity to move in.  As it just so happens, it appears that someone is right outside the neighborhood gates.

King of Pops + Sublime Doughnuts Together At Last 4

King of Pops + Sublime Doughnuts Mashup

I was bored … and when I get bored, I come up with stupid ideas.  Lots and lots of stupid ideas.  Thankfully, my latest illicit concept actually came together alright.  Ladies and gentlemen, introducing my latest “I have too much time on my hands.”

What you have up there is a banana pudding popsicle courtesy of Atlanta’s very own The King of Pops.  However, I decided to spice it up with a surgically altered Reese’s doughnut from Sublime Doughnuts.  Needless to say, it was totally awesome (seriously – it tasted great … though it was messy).  Meanwhile, I think Sublime’s Kamal Grant and the King’s Steven Carse need to put this puppy into production.

While these treats are sold separately, you can track them down by visiting KoP’s website and Sublime’s website.

Warren Bruno of Atkins Park & Ormsby’s Has Died 3

warren bruno

Warren Bruno has passed.  Bruno, who founded Atkins Park in 1983 and Ormsby’s just a few years back, was a vibrant participant in Atlanta’s restaurant and social scene.  Bruno succumbed this AM after a long battle with cancer.  No word yet on services, tributes, and so forth … but that should come to light soon.  RIP Warren.

Eleanor’s: A Cocktail Bar from Muss & Turner’s Goes Live

Posted by Foodie Buddha on May 09, 2012

So the gang from Muss & Turners has gotten together and opened themselves a little cocktail bar. Aptly named Eleanor’s (after one of their longtime employees), Eleanor’s is a cocktail bar with some food offerings from the newly M&T’s next door. It’s located right next to M&Ts (and there’s a little connector between the two).  Have at it ATL. Details can be found on the M&T facebook page.

If You’re Going To Skip Out On A Check ….

Posted by Foodie Buddha on March 16, 2012

Then this is the way to do it:

As the jump took place at Liu Bar, a swanky Australian restaurant, you might not know exactly how high up 243 meters is. It’s roughly 800 ft … so yeah, that was a hell of a jump.
