Have A Drink – Help The Environment

Posted by foodiebuddha on April 25, 2009

Here’s a list of seven alcoholic beverages that are both tasty (supposedly) and sustainable.  Thanks Fast Company!

Square One Vodka
Green because: It’s made from organically grown North Dakota rye and produced in a distillery that gets 25% of its energy from a wind farm. $33+; SquareOneVodka.com

Vodka 360
Green because: Bottles are made from 85% recycled glass, and labels are made from 100% recycled paper. For every bottle sold, its producer, Earth Friendly Distilling Co. (a division of McCormick Distilling Co.), donates $1 to an environmental organization.  $29+, vodka360.com

Prairie Vodka
Green because: It’s packaged in an unfrosted, recyclable glass bottle, and produced from organic corn grown by a Minnesota farmers’ co-op. Leftover cobs are converted on-site to biogas energy that powers distillation. $25+; prairievodka.com

Rhum Clément White Rum
Green because: After it’s made from sugarcane, the spent canes are used to fuel the production process. $30+; rhumclement.net

Veev Vodka
Green because: For every bottle sold, Veev’s certified carbon-neutral producers donate $1 to rainforest preservation and sustainable açaí farming (through Sambazon’s Sustainable Acai Project). $35; veevlife.com

Bruichladdich Whiskey
Green because: Bruichladdich CEO, Mark Reynier, revealed plans to revamp its Port Charlotte Distillery to create a "genuinely zero carbon footprint." Prices vary; bruichladdich.com

New Belgium Beer
Its brewed using wind power, and its maker, New Belgium Brewing Co., is a member of 1% For the Planet, which means that 1% of its revenue helps fund environmental non-profits. $8 (per six-pack), newbelgium.com

Get Drunk While You Breathe

Posted by foodiebuddha on April 22, 2009

As I sit here at Taco Mac in Midtown, I can’t think of a better way to get a little tipsy than to enjoy a sweet tea vodka.  Well, that was until I stumbled upon this jewel.  Apparently, a bar in the UK is releasing alcoholic mist into the air.  Apparently, if you stand around for about 40-minutes, you’ll have had one fairly strong drink!  Awesomeness!

Alright, gonna go get my drink on – eat some food and hit ya’ll up later with my review of Paces 88.

Is It Cost Effective To Brew Your Own Beer?

Posted by foodiebuddha on March 01, 2009

There are tons of websites out there dedicated to home brewing.  A few days ago, SimpleDollar.com posted an in depth Walkthrough and Cost Breakdown of Brewing Your Own Beer.  I’ve never ventured down this road, but the post is certainly worth a read if you are into that sort of thing.

Coolest Pub Crawl EVER: Atlanta Snuggie Pub Crawl / Area Santas Organize Protest 4

Posted by foodiebuddha on February 19, 2009

So apparently, Snuggie, that really funny looking blanket with sleeves, has a lot of fans!  Some diehards are planning a series of nationwide pub crawls and Atlanta seems to be on the list.  While the Atlanta Santa Pub Crawl certainly has a strong following, I just gotta say that the idea of a bunch of [drunk] people walking around in Snuggies is just too freakin’ sweat [sic]! Details after the jump!

Want tastier wine? Try these tricks … or so they say

Posted by foodiebuddha on January 17, 2009

While I have not had a chance to try many of these tips, the NYT posted an interesting article on the 13th.  The article discusses and advises on “new ways to get rid of unwanted aromas, including the taint of corked wine, and what aeration can really do for wine flavor.”  It is an interesting read to say the least.

Great Buy: Zonin Brut Prosecco Vino Spumante Special Cuvée NV

Posted by foodiebuddha on December 25, 2008

In these tough economic times, there is nothing more appealing than finding a hidden gem in the low-end of the price range. Last night, we celebrated the holiday season with a little pre-dinner bubbly.  The bottle of Zonin Brut turned out to be just one of those gems.  While it will not garner you the attention that a bottle of Veuve will; showing up with a bottle of this stuff at the next party will certainly suffice.
