Shoya Izakaya: No Lunch Yet & More Info In A Bit 8

Shoya Izakaya opened late last month to a good bit of fan fare.  I’ve been once (but haven’t chatted it up yet), Kessler dropped in, and Eat, Drink, Man quickly shared his thoughts.  Shoya has already given Miso Izakaya more than it can handle.  While MI seems to be failing (only just now obtaining a liquor license), SI is off and running. I’m gonna get back this week and then do a more in depth post; however, I wanted to drop a little 411 real quick.

Per the title, this place doesn’t offer lunch.  In addition, they aren’t open Mondays (which is a good thing … but more on that … probably late today).  Any who … 5pm daily.

Crawfish Shack Seafood Restaurant Review – Buford Highway, Atlanta, GA [First Impressions] 7

I swear I don’t eat out every meal!  Really, I don’t.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the topic at hand: Crawfish Shack Seafood on Buford Highway.  When most ATLiens think of casual seafood eateries, Six Feet Under, Fontaine’s and Steamhouse Lounge usually reign supreme [Speaking of which … I think I’ll pull my Steamhouse review off the book shelf and post it here].  Needless to say, none of those places blow my britches up.

Enter the Crawfish Shack.  Despite a most unusual location and one of the more a-typical owners for a restaurant of this type, this Cajun-centric Creole restaurant has already developed a strong following.  Open approximately nine months, it was high time I gave it a shot.  Yesterday, Papa Buddha decided to have a little male bonding.  The results were mixed, but ultimately positive.

wan lai - short ribsWan Lai on Buford Highway has hit the ground running.  In just a few short months, this Cantonese restaurant has landed on most everyone’s “must visit” list.  After missing out on Monday’s opportunity, I made the “obligatory” drive up BuHi earlier this afternoon to check out the buzz.  Joined by a good friend from the CDC, we came away with a similar impression.  While the meal was good (at times very good), I’m not ready to hand this place the keys to my Cantonese castle just yet.

Royal China In Chamblee, Atlanta, GA: A Restaurant Review In Pictures 5

Over the years, I have been lucky enough to dine at the home of some friends who are of Cantonese descent.  While I have never been to China, I can use those experiences and my past readings to come to the following conclusion. Royal China is one of the more authentic dim sum (wiki) restaurants in (or around) Atlanta.

A self-proclaimed dumpling freak, I took it upon myself to spread the dumpling love.  A few days ago, a small group of us took a drive up to Chamblee for some Cantonese style cuisine.  What followed was a quick decent into chopstick wars and massive chaos.

Chateau De Saigon Restaurant Review- Chamblee, Atlanta, GA 2

Overall: ★☆☆☆ (good)

This past weekend, five of us treked up to Chateau De Saigon, a relatively new, yet widely reviewed Vietnamese restaurant on Buford Highway.  This was my fourth meal and third dinner at this joint.  Not surprisingly, there is no doubt in my mind that the recent love doled out on this place by the AJC (and others) has had a distinct impact on the crowd.  My first weekend visit back in September was an in-and-out experience.  This past trip, everyone and their mom was there.  Despite our attempts to avoid a crowd, we were relegated to the corner for approximately 25 minutes.  The open seats did nothing more than teased us: “You wish you were here!”  Chateau is still understaffed.

Update: Sushi House Hayakawa Website Now Really Worth A Visit

Sushi House Hayakawa Restaurant Review – Chamblee, Atlanta GA

Sushi House Hayakawa, aptly named for owner Atsushi “Art” Hayakawa, has quickly established itself in what has become a densely populated sushi scene. Now while this is no Soto, Hayakawa will serve as one of the better alternatives for any of my fellow “Soto-ites.”

The interior is distinctly Japanese, the staff is extremely pleasant, and Art is a lively one. Though people are not greeted quite as robustly as are the guests of Sushi-Huku, right away you will get the sense that this is a carefree and indulgent atmosphere. So much so that during my second meal there, everyone participated in a game of rock-paper-scissors! My friend came in second, though we both swear she was robbed!
