Valentine’s Day Reservations Scalpers Try To Scam Beyond Atlanta

Posted by Foodie Buddha on February 11, 2010

Last night, I posted on a troubling website that was trying to sell reservations to some of Atlanta’s most notable restaurants.  Well, a lot has happened since then.  Thanks to some amazing internet word of mouth, 911Reservations.com went offline within a few hours.  Then, the owners tried to get another scam site up under a sub-domain at mybigcommerce.com, but that too was soon killed off.  Not be be deterred, the owners still have a another site up, but it’s thin on the reservations (see below).  However, the story isn’t done there.

911 Reservations Website Caught Trying To Scalp Valentine’s Day Reservations [Updated] 9

Posted by Foodie Buddha on February 10, 2010

[Update: Please view the bottom of the post for the most up to date list of fraudulent listings, Additionally, I will pin this post to the top of my site until Sunday]

Thanks to an email from the gang over at Rathbun’s (website), 911 Reservations, a website looking to pull a fast one over restaurants across the country, is having a hard time pulling off their scam.  The details are as follows:

Within the past few weeks, 911 Reservations started making a series of Valentine’s Day reservations at some of the most popular restaurants in several major cities across the country.  They used a handful of numbers and a group of fake names.  Primarily focused on the Atlanta restaurant scene, the “company” hoped to sell these highly desirable eating appointments for as much as $100.  Luckily, word is starting to spread and some of the bogus accounts are being taken off the books.  More details after the jump!

Las Vegas And New York City Dominate Top Grossing Restaurants List; Atlanta Hides In The Back

ri-top-100-restaurants

Restaurants & Institutions (R&I) is one of those boutique mags that you’d go your entire life and never know existed.  Still, it’s got a well known following amongst industry folk.  Further to the point, they put out a handful of useful articles and reports in most every issue.

One such report is their yearly review of the Top 100 independent restaurants (in terms of gross revenue).  It’s a pretty interesting list; however, those of you here in the ATL will definitely notice the lack of representation from the Capital of the South.  The list itself is dominated by Las Vegas and New York City institutions. While Tao Las Vegas holds strong at #1 with roughly $65.5 million in sales,  Atlanta’s lone representative is the Chops/Lobster Bar.  With an impressive $13.5 million gross, I’d say that easily makes them the crown jewel of the Buckhead Life group.

Eat, Drink, & Reminisce – EDM Style

Posted by Foodie Buddha on June 18, 2009

Eat, Drink, Man is an Atlanta blogger dude who has been around longer than I have (me: Dec, 2008 – him: July 2008).  He puts up lots of great content but today’s post was of particular interest.  In a tip of the hat to Anthony Bourdain, EDM reminisces about some of the dinosaurs of the Atlanta restaurant scene.  Funny thing is, I’m hitting three of these joints in the next four days.  As I am a dinosaur of the city myself, it’s nice to see a tip of the hat to the old guard.

Lobster Bar at Chops Restaurant Review – Buckhead, Atlanta, Ga

Posted by Foodie Buddha on December 26, 2008

The Lobster Bar at Chops has long served as a reliable dining spot for my family.  In years past, we would frequent The Dinning Room for our non-secular Christmas Eve dinner; however, in recent years we have opted for the more relaxed atmosphere of the Lobster Bar.

While both Chops and the Lobster Bar sit firmly entrenched amongst the small circle of "elite" Atlanta restaurants, you may find the experience fluctuates with regards to execution.  However, in a city with a dearth of good seafood, the Lobster Bar stands up just fine.  This past dinner was no exception, and I will do my best to mix in my past experiences with this post.
