Some people obsess about what they wear, some people obsess about the newest gadgets, and some people obsess about the latest celebrity gossip. Me … I obsess about food (and a few other things mind you). Under that all encompassing umbrella of thought, certain types of food have the potential to goad my inner child into something most people call “a craving.” One of those is the Buffalo wing, perhaps the single best culinary concoction this country has given the world.
While hot dogs, hamburgers, and apple pie may get all the credit, those fakers aren’t really “American.” After all, they were invented somewhere else. But the Buffalo wing – that’s all us baby! So I make it my business to pound a few dozen of these genetically modified suckers on a monthly basis (yeah … I’ve long since realized that Buffalo wings come from chickens who probably don’t live a happy life). While my doctor may not approve of this frequent assault on my body, and my conscious if often ignored, a chicken wing diet is something I speak quite highly off.
Enter Wing Factory, a longstanding Buckhead sports bar meets kids coral. It’s a beat up business with with plenty of TVs that serves up the very definition of bar food, and for what it is … I dig it. Sure, its often overrun with several dozen pre-pubescent bastards all hopped up on sugar packets and Kool-Aid, and the food is anything but gourmet, but Wing Factory offers me enough illicit delight that I’ll weather the ruckus every few months for some wings and poppers.

After years and years of being Atlanta’s premier dive bar (sorry Clermont), Northside Tavern is finally getting in on the food game … sort of. I say sort of because the Westside’s newest food adventure is coming in the form of a new food stand named Muncheez. A lot of details are up in the air, but here’s what I know.
The launch date for Muncheez is Sunday, July 10th. They’re going to have a little shindig where a handful of bands, including the Swamp Funk Quartet, are scheduled to play and the trailer will start pumping out food. There’s a chance Muncheez might get going sooner, but that is the official date.
It’s a 20’ long trailer, so I’m not exactly sure where or how it will be configured, that currently sits in the parking lot, still wrapped and facing Brady Ave. The menu is eerily similar to another nearby food stand, albeit much more expansive. Scheduled to be in the included offerings are wings, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, buffalo calamari and fried snickers. The man, or at least one of the people, behind Muncheez is a dude by the name of Rommel Chatman. I don’t have a lot of info on Mr. Chatman, but from what I have been told, he doesn’t come from the restaurant industry was a waiter at Fox and Hounds and Mr. C’s.
Anyway, that’s about all. There is no mention of this on the NT website but Muncheez does have a twitter handle and a facebook page that includes a few videos related to said trailer.

You don’t go to China to enjoy great pizza (though I’m sure it can be found somewhere in the Middle Kingdom). Similarly, you don’t go to Florida for good Tex-Mex. No, if you find yourself around 25th parallel, you best ought to stick to the fruits de mer. So while I dug around Key West early last week, the Unabomber’s girlfriend and I decided to hit up (but not blow up) B.O.’s Fish Wagon, a seafood shack well known around those parts for its kitschy decor, come as you are attitude, and approachably delicious food. Popular enough to get a shout out in the NY Times and a visit from Bobby Flay (via Food Nation), it was high times that Buddy Owen’s Key West institution tried to take down the Foodie Buddha. All in all, this was an enjoyable experience, even with some shortcomings in the grub.
