I was bored … and when I get bored, I come up with stupid ideas.  Lots and lots of stupid ideas.  Thankfully, my latest illicit concept actually came together alright.  Ladies and gentlemen, introducing my latest “I have too much time on my hands.” 

What you have up there is a banana pudding popsicle courtesy of Atlanta’s very own The King of Pops.  However, I decided to spice it up with a surgically altered Reese’s doughnut from Sublime Doughnuts.  Needless to say, it was totally awesome (seriously – it tasted great … though it was messy).  Meanwhile, I think Sublime’s Kamal Grant and the King’s Steven Carse need to put this puppy into production.

I wait for the day when Sublime Doughnuts starts getting lines out the door like it deserves.  In the meantime, I can resign myself comfortably to the fact that I am able to navigate the doughnut list at my leisure without fear of being rushed.  While I was in there a few days back, I was excited to see they had added a little ice cream to their selections. 

All of the ice cream is made on onsite by owner Kamal Grant and his band of merry crack dessert dealers.  A scoop runs $2.25 (each scoop after that is just $1).  I tasted a couple of them and thought there was some real potential.  It wasn’t enough to really convey any great truths about what each flavor held, though the ice cream seemed a really dense … I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.  I have the ice cream IQ of a dufus.  The best thing, and something I’m sure to check out sooner than later, are their ice ream doughwiches (as I’m calling them).  To make them, Kamal uses one of the “shells” from his varied stuffed doughnuts and replaces the filling with ice cream.  He has a couple of concoctions but it appears you can customize your ice cream and doughnut combo.  They clock in at $3.50 (if memory serves me correctly).

This round mound of doughnut down contains Bavarian crème, butter toffee, vanilla crème, strawberries, Reese’s cup, raspberry, powdered sugar, peanut butter, marsh mellow, Oreo, coconut, and Butterfinger!  I feel a doughnut rap coming on!

Oh and for those of you assuming the title is a reference to some morbid fantasy of death by doughnut … it’s not.  It’s borrowed from the term “suicide drink.”  In my more formative years, I enjoyed taking my soda fountain cup and pouring every possible varietal into my container.  It’s a common, yet somewhat underground, behavior.

We all know that Sublime Doughnuts is the bestest doughnut shop in the ATL!  Now, thanks to the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim team … the whole world knows it! WITNESS:

Oh yeah … Bakeshop has left Concentrics Restaurants!  Don’t believe me? Well, I said it on twitter, so it must be true!

One of the strange little developments of these here internets is the propensity for print content to show up online before it shows up in the stores.  Next month’s issue of Food & Wine Magazine is no exception.  It features a little ditty on boutique outfits that pump out good grub.  Two Atlantans are featured, and as chance would have it, both are gunning for your sweet tooth.

Kristen hard of Cacao Atlanta showed up to talk about all things chocolate.  You can check out her delectables on the Cacao Atlanta website.  In addition, Kamal Grant, the bane of Homer Simpson’s existence, was featured and chatted up his amazingly awesomely delicious Sublime Doughnuts.

Dear Kristen and Kamal, I’m kind of mad at you making it hard for me to continue my “I don’t like sweets” stance.

Doesn’t that doughnut look good?  It’s a Reese’s doughnut from Sublime Doughnuts in Midtown.  Now Sublime looks as good on paper (or in this case … the computer screen) as it does in person.  You see, I got a nice little surprise when I dropped in on the Sublime Doughnuts website just a few minutes ago.  Turns out, it got a big facelift and is now all nice and snazzy.  Regardless of who your favorite doughnut maker in metro Atlanta happens to be, Kamal Grant’s place is always in the discussion.  So take a gander at his food porn, and then go get one (or two, or three, or two dozen) for yourself.  For all you digital fiends, it looks like Kamal is updating the Sublime twitter page with some frequency.  Video time:

What do you get when you combine cops, doughnuts, and one great sense of humor?  The answer: one heck of business that’s as funny on the soul as it is expansive on the draw string. Personally, I dig it when stereotypes are exploited for the greater good of humor and joy.  Apparently, I’m not alone.

Clare, MI is a small town of roughly 4,000 people.  Normally, it’s not a particularly noteworthy town; however, they’ve recently received a great deal of attention because of the town doughnut shop.

Established in 1896, the Clare City Bakery was as much a part of the town as anything else.  However, times are tough and the CCB fell victim to the economic woes of the day.

Enter the Clare City Police Department, all nine of them.  The nine dudes decided to purchase the failed bakery and reopen it as, you guessed it, “Cops & Doughnuts.”  The newly reworked bakery comes complete with it’s own website AND it’s own merchandise line.

Oh, and while I’d love to take credit for the "You Have the Right to Remain Glazed" bit, it’s not mine.  Fact is, you can get it, or one of several other hilarious catch phrases, on your very own T-Shirt from the Cops & Doughnuts Shameless Commerce Division.
