The Great Food Truck Race In Atlanta For Memorial Day: Updated [RoamingATL] 10

Posted by Foodie Buddha on May 27, 2011

UPDATED: 5.28 @ 10:30a

Remember last year when we mentioned the Food Network’s new show called The Great Food Truck Race?  Well, earlier this month, TFN confirmed what we already knew … the lineup of food trucks for season 2.  Hosted by Tyler Florence, filming is already in full swing and as it turns out, we’re hosting one of the stops here in Capital of the South.  That’s right folks, The Great Food Truck Race is filming in Atlanta during Memorial Day Weekend before the show debuts August 14th.

This season’s lineup consists of Café Con Leche from LA, Devilicious from A Whale’s Vagina, Hodge Podge from Cleveland, Roxy’s Grilled Cheese from Boston, Seabirds from Costa Messa, Sky’s Gourmet Tacos from LA, The Lime Truck from Irvine, and Korilla BBQ from NYC.  Though I’m sad to report that several teams have already been eliminated by now, there is still no short of opportunities to check out this food this weekend.

If you want to follow all the action, be sure to give us a follow via twitter on @RoamingATL, and we’ll keep you up to date on where everyone is.  Also, we’ll be updating this post as more info rolls in.  In the mean time, for some of the specifics … AND SOME SPOILERS … check out the rest of the post after the jump!

Orleagian Snowballs: Bouncing Here And There And Everywhere [Street Food]

orleagian snowballs - the truck

Gummy Bears!  You know them, you love them, and you still eat them.  Their TV show rocked mad musical beats, and all you want to do is pop them like the pills.  But why eat them straight out ‘the package when you can dunk them in a vat of frozen deliciousness?

Yes, at Orleagian Snowballs (or-lee-gin) at the corner of Moreland and Ponce De Leon, you too can grab one of these snowball treasure chests.  Unlike this son of a bitch, marinating gummy bears in fruit flavored syrup is anything but wrong.  It’s Orleagian’s call to arms and makes eating an already delicious snowball just that much better.

Roaming Hunger Tracks Street Food In Atlanta: Helps To Satisfy Your Mobile Cravings 2

Posted by Foodie Buddha on August 05, 2010

roaming-hunger-logo

Hey gang, I just wanted to let you know that you’re going to start seeing that cool little logo a bit more ‘round these parts.  RoamingHunger.com, the first nationwide food cart/truck tracker, has just landed in Atlanta.  We’ve joined forces to help y’all stay on top of all things street food as they happen here in the Dirty South.

Roaming Hunger launched in 2009 in an attempt to help people all over the country track down their favorite mobile craving.  Since then, the site has been featured all over the internet (Fox News, SF Weekly, Fast Company, GrubStreet, etc…).  Most recently, they were one of the media sponsors for the Los Angeles Street Food Fest (website) followed by an excursion with Andrew Zimmern of the Travel Channel.  You should definitely check out the Zimmern recap, he was there filming a segment for Appetite For Life.

As for the site itself, it’s a great resource!  The site gives you the twitter stream, maps, menus, pictures, and social media links for any vendor listed on the site.  We’ve already added the King of Pops and surprise surprise … he has a like! (Guess who?).

An Atlanta section is in the works, so in the meantime, you should definitely check out the blog and like us on facebook!!!!  In fact, I’m sure I’ll pop up from time to time on the RH blog, so definitely mark that down (cuz you don’t get enough of me … right?).  Before I forget, you should definitely follow @RoamingATL on twitter where I’ll be dropping lots of good street food news.  It’s separate from the Foodie Buddha twitter feed, so even if you follow me there, adding RoamingATL isn’t a bad idea!

As two of Atlanta’s cutest bloggers would say: this is kind of a big deal!

The Gyro Stand At Opera Nightclub [Food Finds] 1

the gyro stand - sign

You know you’re a food addict when you find yourself verbally sparring with some pseudo parking attendant in the hopes of navigating droves of drunk club bunnies in an attempt to grab a late night fix.  Truth be told, my recent exchange with some dude at the intersection of Crescent Ave & 14th street was far from contentious … but it just sounded better to imply otherwise.

Nearly every late night drive over the past year and change near that aforementioned intersection has served as a reminder that a food cart (specifically a gyro/pizza stand) awaits.  If you show up at Opera Nightclub, or any of the nearby drunk tanks, towards the end of any given week you’re bound to find a sea of people milling about.  This of course assumes that the sun has gone down.  It’s been some time since I’ve been in that part of Midtown past midnight.  This mostly due to the fact that I know my presence would send mass amounts of drunk ladies in their Sunday best to levels of ecstasy (the pill … not the emotional state) not seen in sometime.

The King Of Pops Goes To CNN [Videos]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on July 04, 2010

Steven Carse, known to you and me as The King of Pops, just went from the sidelines to the headlines.  CNN just ran a little ditty on this fabricant de popsicle.  While I haven’t loved every one of the multitude of popsicle concoctions I’ve sampled, I have appreciated all of them.  My latest craves … the Georgia Peach and the Arnold Palmer.  I just recently snagged me some Arnold Palmer a few days ago and I must say it’s the fohizzy!!!  So sorry @caroline0814 and @katieK004, our arm wrestling match will have to wait until another day.  You can follow Steven’s twitter feed for daily goodness, and check out this post for some background.

Vanilla Malt Whoppers Popsicle … Burger King Never Had It This Good

Posted by Foodie Buddha on May 03, 2010

Most of the time, when someone mentions the word Whopper to me … I think of this:

Whopper with cheese by HAMACHI!.

Now, I’ll think of this:

whopper popsicle from the king of pops
vanilla malt popsicle from the king of pops

Creamy crunchy and just damn good … that’s the vanilla malt popsicle with whoppers (courtesy of everyone’s favorite popsicle guy).  If you want one, hit up Souper Jenny (website) in Buckhead, the Irwin Street Market (website) in Inman Park.  Also, you can hit him up at Buddy’s Service Station at North and N. Highland.  Me … I just follow him on twitter @theKingOfPops.

The King Of Pops Now Serving Delicious Treats! [Street Food] 1

Another day, another day closer to true street food here in Atlanta.  First up, The King of Pops.  Apparently, his cart arrived last Friday, though I totally missed the news!  Today, he’s back at his first location (Buddy’s Gas Station at the corner of North Ave & North Highland) from 3pm until 7:30 (or so…).  Hit him up … and quickly … cuz these $2.50 popsicles sound too good to last.  If you plan on visiting his mobile popsicle stand, you’d best give Steven a follow on twitter, which is where I stole (borrowed with the hope that i don’t piss off the King) that picture.  Anywhere, go try some!

UPDATE: I was originally under the impression that The King of Pops would be able to move around to a couple of locations; however, it appears he’s only licensed for the spot he’s currently in.  For now, his plan is to be open every afternoon at Buddy’s, but we’ll just have to see how that goes.  If you’re in the area, I highly suggest you go … I just had one and it’s FREAKING GOOOD!!!
