Frank Ma Discusses The History Of Buford Highway

During some of my intermittent and haphazard internet perusing, I stumbled upon really neat videos by Frank Ma and Eddie Hernandez, two well-known Atlanta chefs.  Ma, who’s followed like a hawk by Atlanta’s Chinese gastronomes, recently sat down to talk about his arrival in the dirty South and the burgeoning food center that runs the length of Buford Highway.  Though Ma has “officially” retired as a restaurateur since his short at Frank Ma South, his word still carries a great deal of weight.   Check out this audio slide show:

Frank Ma South For Chinese New Year [Updates] 1

The love affair with Frank Ma South has come and gone in this city.  Late in 2008 when Frank Ma moved in with the gang at Chopsticks in the Emory area, all hell broke loose.  Most everyone got all giddy at the idea of a seemingly authentic Chinese restaurant located somewhere other than BuHi.  I was never all up in that … shocking I know.  At the time, I recapped my thoughts on “THAT SITE” during my pre-blog days.

Suddenly, like a fart in the wind, Frank up and vanished.  In his wake, chef’s have come and gone and the crowds have thinned.  However, the menu remains basically the same.  I’ve been diving in and out of there intermittently since Frank’s departure with the latest visit being yesterday for the Chinese New Year.  While the restaurant still satisfies my urging for non-nationalized Chinese grub, it’s still unable to compete with our cities top dogs.

Review Update: Frank Ma No Longer at Frank Ma South, Atlanta, GA 3

As I continue to borrow from old content while I work on getting the site up to speed, I felt the need to update you on the status of Frank Ma South. Frank is one of my favorite restaurateurs; however, much like the famed Richard Blais, he never seems to stay in one spot for very long.
