While OpenTable seems to be synonymous with online restaurant reservations, they aren’t the only game in town. UrbanSpoon, another one of those online restaurant information sites (and one that I actually use), launched their own system back in late 2009. The program, simply named Rez, has been slowly rolling out to different cities over the past few years. Thankfully for those of us in the Dirty Dirty, Atlanta is now on the map. Rez itself is geared towards those of us who do the eating; meanwhile, UrbanSpoon has released an ipad app aimed at helping those of us who do the feeding. That application is known as RezBook. As it stands, there is still some growing up to do for Rez, but it’s a start nonetheless. More details after the jump!

I make no bones about my general disdain for a company that embeds personal information into audio files that you purchase (see: Apple). That said, I know a big thing when I see it … and for better or worse, the iPad is a big thing. That I have no intention of playing with it for any significant amount of time is neither here nor there. What’s important is this: we’re foodies and the iPad will be good to some of you. So … were you one of the 300,000 people to rush out and purchase an iPad on day one? If so, check out some awesomely cool things you can do with it after the jump (with a tip of the hat to awesomeness that is Super Mario Brothers)!

First Downtown Atlanta did it, then Midtown rolled the dice. Now Inman Park is getting in on the action. Starting September 21st and running through the 27th, twelve restaurants in the Inman Park neighborhood will offer up a special prix-fixe menu. By now, there’s a good chance you know the drill. If not, here’s the short of the short: three courses will run you $25 [most of the time]. I say most of the time because there are a few exceptions. A meal at Rathbun’s Steak will run you $35 while Sauced, The Albert, and Pure Taqueria will run their specials at $15.
To further add to the confusion, Sauced and Pure Taqueria, that taco chain out of Alpharetta, won’t actually be open. Apparently, Pure Taqueria won’t actually be open in time for restaurant week – so I’m not sure how that qualifies them. Similarly, neither will Sauced. However, the latter will host guests on the 25th from 6-10pm for $15 cash money. I’ll elaborate on those goings on in another post. Full details after the jump.

Once a year, a multitude of restaurants in Downtown Atlanta get together for some dining specials. The event starts today and includes a total of 28 restaurants. Every restaurant is offering up a $25 prix fixe meal for $25. Included in the menu is an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. While this doesn’t include beverages, tax, or tip – it’s still one hell of a deal. I’ve taken the liberty of collecting the list of restaurants for ya’ll and provided a link to OpenTable so you can make your reservations! Oh yeah, Atlanta Downtown has put up a preferred parking list to help you find a spot for your transportation.

So OpenTable, everyone’s favorite online reservation system for restaurants (is there a viable alternative?), is going public. According to TechCrunch, they want to raise $40 million with their IPO. I will be shocked if that happens.
I looked over the finances myself and I don’t see it happening. Speaking specifically to the product: I love their service, but their lack of 15-minute intervals leaves me frustrated. I’ll be curious to see how their expansion beyond the states goes. It’s a welcomed service, but that’s about it for me. I’m far from a financial expert but I don’t expect much. It’ll be interesting to see their market cap.
