Empire State South Going Live In August? [Openings] 1

Posted by Foodie Buddha on August 03, 2010

chef hugh atchesonSo yeah, this is a little like beating a dead horse, but here’s the latest on Empire State South, Hugh Acheson’s much discussed Atlanta endeavor.

After multiple delays, the Midtown restaurant is now scheduled for late August.  This is stated on their website … but last time they did that, you know how that ended up. Frankly, I’m a little worn out on restaurants putting an opening date on their doors/websites/press/etc… when there is no way they can hit the date.

Also, Nick Melvin, who many know from his time at Parish in Inman Park, is set to run the kitchen.  We’ll see how that shapes up.  To date, I have yet to find Melvin’s food worthy of any real praise.

Other than that, the bocce ball court seems all but finished, there’ll be a coffee bar, and the rest is brew-haha and he said/she said.

Inman Park Restaurant Week Runs September 21st-27th 1

Inman Park Restaurant Week Logo

First Downtown Atlanta did it, then Midtown rolled the dice.  Now Inman Park is getting in on the action.  Starting September 21st and running through the 27th, twelve restaurants in the Inman Park neighborhood will offer up a special prix-fixe menu.  By now, there’s a good chance you know the drill.  If not, here’s the short of the short: three courses will run you $25 [most of the time].  I say most of the time because there are a few exceptions.  A meal at Rathbun’s Steak will run you $35 while Sauced, The Albert, and Pure Taqueria will run their specials at $15.

To further add to the confusion, Sauced and Pure Taqueria, that taco chain out of Alpharetta, won’t actually be open.  Apparently, Pure Taqueria won’t actually be open in time for restaurant week – so I’m not sure how that qualifies them.  Similarly, neither will Sauced.  However, the latter will host guests on the 25th from 6-10pm for $15 cash money.  I’ll elaborate on those goings on in another post.  Full details after the jump.

Lunch At Parish: Nothing New … Yet [Quick Hits]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on April 01, 2009

parish flagTwo-months ago, the NY Times brought Serenbe Farms in Palmetto, GA to our attention.  The Newspaper was a shining moment for chef Nick Melvin.  Not a moment later, Melvin went splits-ville.  I, like most everyone else, had no idea where he headed off to. On March 31st, Concentrics Restaurants lifted the veil from over our eyes.

Melvin, a New Orleans native, has returned to ATL to run Parish, a farm-to-table “Cajun influenced” restaurant concept down in Inman Park.  While I suspect most of the real changes will take place in their main dining room, I wanted to dive in for lunch to see if anything had happened with the downstairs market. [By the way, the changes I expect to see are with the menu and not with the decor or the concept of the restaurant].
