King of Pops + Sublime Doughnuts Together At Last 4

King of Pops + Sublime Doughnuts Mashup

I was bored … and when I get bored, I come up with stupid ideas.  Lots and lots of stupid ideas.  Thankfully, my latest illicit concept actually came together alright.  Ladies and gentlemen, introducing my latest “I have too much time on my hands.”

What you have up there is a banana pudding popsicle courtesy of Atlanta’s very own The King of Pops.  However, I decided to spice it up with a surgically altered Reese’s doughnut from Sublime Doughnuts.  Needless to say, it was totally awesome (seriously – it tasted great … though it was messy).  Meanwhile, I think Sublime’s Kamal Grant and the King’s Steven Carse need to put this puppy into production.

While these treats are sold separately, you can track them down by visiting KoP’s website and Sublime’s website.

King of Pops Awesome Mural Is Dunzo [News That Sucks] 2

Posted by Foodie Buddha on December 16, 2011

Consider this post a big middle finger directed at an unidentified party.  According to RestaurantsATL, the super awesome mega-sized King of Pops mural is apparently gone, up and vanished like a fart in the wind.  The mural was located in the parking lot of Buddy’s Gas Station, which has long served as home base for The King.  Smack dab in the middle of Poncey-Highland, this mural served as a call to arms … it said: “Stop, look at me … there is deliciousness to be had.”

It was fun, it was colorful, and it made me happy and it made the people happy!  According to RestaurantsATL, this is the work of our fabulous city government.  They are of course, enforcing some very serious, totally legitimate city ordinance. Interlude:

Gas Station Employee: I’m starting to picking up your sarcasm.
Richard Hayden: Well, I should hope so, because I’m laying it on pretty thick.

Mayor Kasim Reed (@KasimReed) happens to be a pretty big supporter of street food … so I hope this catches his attention and something is done to restore order in the universe.  If something doesn’t happen in the near future – don’t be surprised if an online petition shows up on this blog!

On a more positive note, I recently noticed that KoP is now at Sheik Burritos … you can get all your KOP news via their twitter feed and their website.

UPDATE: Steven Carse (the King himself) will be on TV tonight – you should be able to catch him on Channel 36 during the 10 o’clock showing and 11Alive sometime between 11pm and Midnight.

Serious Eats Atlanta Food Truck Slideshow [RoamingATL]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on November 14, 2011

We at Roaming Hunger do our best to keep up with what’s going on in the food truck world (Follow us via @RoamingATL and @RoamingHunger).  Thankfully, our job is often times made a bit easier thanks to the work of guys like Todd Brock, the ATLien who moonlights over at Serious Eats.

Brock just posted a little food truck slideshow featuring some of his favorite Atlanta food trucks and street vendors.  In all, 11 vendors that encompass everything from popsicles to Korean tacos are featured.  Brock took it upon himself to snap a shot of each listed vendor and do a little write up in case you need the 411.  Check out who made the list after the jump!

The Great Food Truck Race In Atlanta For Memorial Day: Updated [RoamingATL] 10

Posted by Foodie Buddha on May 27, 2011

UPDATED: 5.28 @ 10:30a

Remember last year when we mentioned the Food Network’s new show called The Great Food Truck Race?  Well, earlier this month, TFN confirmed what we already knew … the lineup of food trucks for season 2.  Hosted by Tyler Florence, filming is already in full swing and as it turns out, we’re hosting one of the stops here in Capital of the South.  That’s right folks, The Great Food Truck Race is filming in Atlanta during Memorial Day Weekend before the show debuts August 14th.

This season’s lineup consists of Café Con Leche from LA, Devilicious from A Whale’s Vagina, Hodge Podge from Cleveland, Roxy’s Grilled Cheese from Boston, Seabirds from Costa Messa, Sky’s Gourmet Tacos from LA, The Lime Truck from Irvine, and Korilla BBQ from NYC.  Though I’m sad to report that several teams have already been eliminated by now, there is still no short of opportunities to check out this food this weekend.

If you want to follow all the action, be sure to give us a follow via twitter on @RoamingATL, and we’ll keep you up to date on where everyone is.  Also, we’ll be updating this post as more info rolls in.  In the mean time, for some of the specifics … AND SOME SPOILERS … check out the rest of the post after the jump!

The King Of Pops Goes To CNN [Videos]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on July 04, 2010

Steven Carse, known to you and me as The King of Pops, just went from the sidelines to the headlines.  CNN just ran a little ditty on this fabricant de popsicle.  While I haven’t loved every one of the multitude of popsicle concoctions I’ve sampled, I have appreciated all of them.  My latest craves … the Georgia Peach and the Arnold Palmer.  I just recently snagged me some Arnold Palmer a few days ago and I must say it’s the fohizzy!!!  So sorry @caroline0814 and @katieK004, our arm wrestling match will have to wait until another day.  You can follow Steven’s twitter feed for daily goodness, and check out this post for some background.

Vanilla Malt Whoppers Popsicle … Burger King Never Had It This Good

Posted by Foodie Buddha on May 03, 2010

Most of the time, when someone mentions the word Whopper to me … I think of this:

Whopper with cheese by HAMACHI!.

Now, I’ll think of this:

whopper popsicle from the king of pops
vanilla malt popsicle from the king of pops

Creamy crunchy and just damn good … that’s the vanilla malt popsicle with whoppers (courtesy of everyone’s favorite popsicle guy).  If you want one, hit up Souper Jenny (website) in Buckhead, the Irwin Street Market (website) in Inman Park.  Also, you can hit him up at Buddy’s Service Station at North and N. Highland.  Me … I just follow him on twitter @theKingOfPops.

Muffin Sudbery & The Sexy Popsicle Girls Descend On The Food Truck Extravaganza [Food Trucks] 4

Posted by Foodie Buddha on April 28, 2010

crowd shot! DUCK! by foodiebuddha.

Last Thursday, foodies, lawyers, socialites, and professional lame wads came out in full force for the Food Truck Extravaganza in the Souper Jenny parking lot.  Even with a who’s who of ATL, the most important guests were most definitely Muffin Sudbery & The Sexy Popsicle girls.  Armed with fistfuls of cash, a feverous need for grub, and a seemingly endless amount of stomach space, these four women took to the festival like Al Bundy takes to a Hondo marathon.

Thankfully, the ladies were nice enough to bring me a stash of pictures and a handful of samples to check out.  While recapping an event you can’t attend in the future may make you feel teased and taunted, fear not … all of this food is available with a little bit of patience and good detective work.

You’re welcome!

Total luck as this was cropped from the background of one of my shots!  Truly awesome!  Who are you mysterious lover of the popsicle?  Yes, this mysterious man of popsicle orgies might as well have been a plant, because if this doesn’t show a true love of The King of Pops, I don’t know what does!

The Underground Food Truck Extravaganza By Souper Jenny [Food Trucks] 3

Breaking news: On Thursday, April 22nd, Buckhead’s Souper Jenny will be cancelling their Grilled Cheese Night.  Instead, proprietor Jenny Levison will be hosting the Super Secret Underground Food Truck Extravaganza (from 6pm to 9pm).  Yes, it seems that the food truck craze that is just now inundating our daily lives is getting another big push from “fringe” to “mainstream.”

The previously mentioned Incredible Flying Soup Mobile will be there, serving up Nantucket lobster rolls and shrimp posole.  In addition, my favorite popsicle dude (The King of Pops) and Black Tie Barbeque will be on hand, fighting with The Good truck, Taqueria del Sol, and The Pickle for your stomach space.  In fact, there will be a few more vendors and FREE WINE!!!! (while supplies last).  Woot!

Most importantly, this is a street food affair – so leave your plastic at home. Get there:

The King Of Pops Now Serving Delicious Treats! [Street Food] 1

Posted by Foodie Buddha on April 09, 2010

king-of-pops-menu

Another day, another day closer to true street food here in Atlanta.  First up, The King of Pops.  Apparently, his cart arrived last Friday, though I totally missed the news!  Today, he’s back at his first location (Buddy’s Gas Station at the corner of North Ave & North Highland) from 3pm until 7:30 (or so…).  Hit him up … and quickly … cuz these $2.50 popsicles sound too good to last.  If you plan on visiting his mobile popsicle stand, you’d best give Steven a follow on twitter, which is where I stole (borrowed with the hope that i don’t piss off the King) that picture.  Anywhere, go try some!

UPDATE: I was originally under the impression that The King of Pops would be able to move around to a couple of locations; however, it appears he’s only licensed for the spot he’s currently in.  For now, his plan is to be open every afternoon at Buddy’s, but we’ll just have to see how that goes.  If you’re in the area, I highly suggest you go … I just had one and it’s FREAKING GOOOD!!!
