Dynamic Dave Sweeney [Videos]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on October 20, 2010

Double Dragon NintendoGrowing up, the initials DD evoked memories of the Lee brother’s going all thug life with a set of baseball bats and a little bit of dynamite.  Yes, Double Dragon taught me how to whoop ass and take names … all in the name of love (cue: Marian).

However, times change and people learn [Like how scoring chicks has nothing to do with how many pixelated bad dudes you can pound]. Nowadays, as a not so fledgling adult, the initials DD evoke dreams of aromatic fresh veggies against a backdrop of plate assembled art.  We have David Sweeney to thank for that.

The chef/owner of Edgewood’s Dynamic Dish is easily the best argument this city has for the vegetarian diet.  Time after time I’ve headed Downtown with the staunchest of meatatarians, only to find them sufficiently satiated by Sweeney’s daily expression.  About a month ago, Proper Medium dropped in on Sweeney to get an idea of what goes on in his recently expanded establishment.

Truth be told, Sweeney will dip into the chicken coup every now and then … so if you absolutely refuse to eat vegetarian, just be patient and you’ll find some meat on the menu.  Anywho, enjoy!

Dynamic Dish To Expand [News That Doesn’t Suck] 1

Posted by Foodie Buddha on December 03, 2009

Big ups to Atlanta Magazine’s Bill Addison … who dropped this jewel on us via twitter.   Apparently, Dynamic Dish, everyone’s favorite healthy eating spot, is scheduled to expand in the spring.  According to Addison, DD will do away with their BYOB policy as they are due a liquor license.  More interesting, is the idea that there will be a semi-standard menu in place.  I’m not so sure how people will react to that point.  Some people love that DD is different everyday, other’s hate it.  I’m sure it’s hell on owner/chef David Sweeney and this will almost definitely help him streamline his business.  Congrats to DD, and if you haven’t been … get there now!

Taqueria Del Sol Restaurant Review In Pictures: Chile Rellenos And All – Westside, Atlanta, GA [Quick Hits] 9

Posted by Foodie Buddha on September 18, 2009

taqueria del sol - is that a table food of mexican, or are you just happy to see me? by you.

I think it would be presumptuous of me to assume that the majority of the people who happen upon this little love of mine have no idea about Taquería Del Sol.  In that spirit, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this little chain of taco bars (aka taquerías) is the darling of Atlanta’s Mexican restaurant scene.  For better or worse, TdS seems to roll off a number of tongues when the conversation turns to “What Mexican restaurant do we want to eat at?”

With four locations locations, a strong following, and more visits under my belt than I could possibly remember, it was only a matter of time before I felt the need to drop some lyrics on my fellow foodie groupies.  However, given the circumstances, most notably my lack of free time right now, I thought it might be nice to just hit ya’ll with some pretty little pictures and a few notes.

Big Boi Loves Some R. Thomas – Outkast Superstar Dishes On Atlanta [Quick Hits] 2

Posted by Foodie Buddha on March 27, 2009

Today, MTV ran a bit piece on hip-hop’s ultra cool Big Boi.  In the article, Georgia native Antwan André Patton (a.k.a. Big Boi) talks, albeit briefly, about where he likes to eat around ATL.  He named only one spot:

“[We] do a little bit of everything," Big said. "R. Thomas is this nice little joint on Peachtree — 24-hour health-food joint, organic," he explained.

Mister Patton also mentioned how he loves to shop and visit uh… adult places… in around town.

Nice to see an Atlanta institution like R Thomas get some love.  As Big Boi mentioned, this little Brookwood Hills restaurant offers up a pretty diverse sampling of health conscious cuisine.  I myself have an affinity for their deluxe chips and their breakfast options.  Everything on the menu is available 24-7 and is pretty solid.  While they won’t win any culinary awards, R serves up a kitsch experience with consistent food.  I kind of think of it as the yang to the ying of Dynamic Dish.  Certainly worth a visit if you haven’t been there before.

Grass Fed Beef Is So 2008. Hello Shmeat [Laugh Of The Day]

Posted by Foodie Buddha on March 18, 2009

While I was knocking out some 9-5 work a few minutes ago, I had last nights Colbert Report playing in the background.  However, my attention quickly moved away from databases and spreadsheets as soon as I heard the words “meat loving American.”  Take about 5 minutes and watch this schaweet clip!  Mmmm… shmeat!

Hitting The Town With Your Peeps? Good Restaurants In Atlanta For Groups 5

Posted by Foodie Buddha on March 03, 2009

A friend of mine was asking me for advice on where to go for her birthday.  I realized by the time we were done … that was good fodder for a post. This is by no means an attempt to offer up a “definitive” list of party grub in the Dirty.  Rather, here are just a few spots that seem to work well for when you want to hang with your crew.  The focus here isn’t as much on the food as it is on the experience.  That said, *most* of these offer up serviceable grub.  The list after the jump!

Veggieland Restaurant Review – Buckhead, Atlanta, GA 1

Posted by Foodie Buddha on February 09, 2009

Overall: ★☆☆☆

Veggieland is a solid choice for any vegetarians or for any carnivores looking for a healthy alternative.  While many restaurants have come and gone over the last twenty years, Veggieland keeps chugging along.  They never seem too busy, but they deliver a consistent experience in both service and quality.

I Love Vegetarians and PETA Rejoices in Super Bowl Rejection 1

Posted by Foodie Buddha on February 01, 2009

Okay, well “love” may be extreme (though my one vegan friend is super cool and very easy on the eyes), but seriously – talk about a major coup for PETA.  Sure Super Bowl ads get a lot of attention … but you can’t buy buzz like this.

Anyway, here is the video in question.  Be sure to check out the behind the scenes clip … it takes the broccoli!  See ya’ll after the game!

Dynamic Dish Scores BIG!!!

Posted by Foodie Buddha on January 09, 2009

Dynamic Dish, one of my favorite Atlanta restaurants (internal), was named the third best Modern Vegetarian Restaurant in the States.  This one is legitimate madames and monsieurs.  While there are thousands of top 10 lists, blogs (cough cough), and magazines, a handful of publications still carry some real weight.  The magazine of note is Bon Appétit.

Get down there as soon as you can.  The menu changes daily and Saturday nights are Pizza night.

FoodieBuddha 2008 Atlanta Restaurant of the Year: Sushi House Hayakawa – Chamblee, Atlanta, GA

Posted by Foodie Buddha on December 31, 2008

I am not so brazen as to assume that my word carries with it the clout that a post from someone like Jennifer Zyman or Cliff Bostock carries.  That aside, I do feel comfortable enough to be an avid food talker.  Thus, I must have a restaurant of the year, right?  Indeed I do!  In addition, I’ve taken the time to identify some “honorable mentions”
