For your viewing pleasure, Cooper the cat gets into a piece of watermelon. Mmmmm …

Just because I was away doesn’t mean the world came to a screeching halt (shocking, I know). So here are some odds and ends from around the net from the past week+. I’ll leave this post, with a heavy heart.
It’s getting darn cold out there, so what better way to ease the pain of the dropping thermometer than with a visit from Jenny Levison, Atlanta’s soup queen. [Errr… well, the conversation is nice … but actually, her soup is what will actually do the trick].
Levison’s Souper Jenny has long garnered the attention of the Buckhead dining scene. However, that notoriety extends beyond the scope of the 30305. In fact, in the recent Best of The Big A series, AJC readers named Souper J’s the best soup in the Dirty.
On most any given day, you’ll see SJ cavorting around her shop with a carefree and friendly manner. Meanwhile, she manages to put together some very cool underground dinners, get on national TV (video below), and put out a cookbook. Oh yeah, she tweets as well!
She took the time to answer our little questionnaire, and in doing so, Levison’s approach to good tasting, straightforward food really shines. Jenny has been swinging a ladle since ‘98, so like they say: “The woman knows!” Alright, take a few minutes out of your day and check her out. And with that, welcome to ITCK!
Pizza is the hot-button topic of Atlanta’s food scene. Walmart is the hot-button corporation of the American business scene. Now, these two have come together for surprisingly pleasant results. The mega-chain is now a ubiquitous fixture on our country’s landscape, they don’t really take care of their own, and they seem to suck up most any small business … then promptly spit them out.
So while they have a reputation for being the end-all, be-all of corporate greed (next to Enron perhaps), the company should be recognized for the things that they do right. One of those things is in regards to the all to important issue of sustainability. Walmart is actually making incredible strides towards being a sustainable organization.
Why the weekend notation here? Because one of the sustainable items in their cache is their pizza box … and that’s something we should all get behind. So here’s a little vid that chats up the box … when you’re done watching, you can actually check out all sorts of info from their yearly “Sustainability Milestone Meeting.”

On most any given Sunday, you’ll find me somewhere other than in front of my TV (usually in bed or at brunch). However, a few weeks ago, I was told that CBS’ Sunday morning news program, aptly named Sunday Morning, aired their annual Food Issue. Though I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve watched the vignette styled news program, I made it a point to set my DVR. Here’s a recap of the episode, complete with its own tip of the hat to the ATL.
Why is this newsworthy? Who the fock knows. But it’s Paula Deen and Atlanta and Hosea Feed The Homeless … so here we find ourselves. Details are as follows: Paula Deen was in town to participate in the well known Hosea Williams food thingy. However, no good deed goes unpunished. With Food Network cameras in tow, Deen and an unidentified helper dude started playing toss the hog. On the return throw, Porky got all up in that … leaving Deen with a swelled nose and impeding nightmares of Old Major ahead. But as they say … all publicity is good publicity. So in keeping with that theme, why don’t ya’ll send some love Hosea’s way.

When the host of Bravo TV’s Inside the Actor’s Studio heard that the highly regarded Foodie Buddha was doing a food series inspired by his TV show … he jumped at the opportunity to participate. Thankfully, we were able to catch it on film and needless to say, it’s scrumptulesent (spelling?)
Back later with another one
Well … hell may hath frozen over with this one. This week has been very big to the technology community as Microsoft has released their highly anticipated OS, dubbed Windows 7. Burger King decided to celebrate the release with a most disgusting/awesome/shocking/amazing/revolting promotion. Introducing (in Japan only), The Windows 7 Whopper. Details after the jump.
Running With Tweezers and her #EatOn30 cronies aren’t the only people trying to raise awareness of the current state of the food system. Turns out, the one and only Sarah Silverman has also thrown in her 2 cents. As luck would have it, Sarah has solved the problem of world hunger. All we need to do is convince ole Benedict XVI, aka his royal Pope-ness, to sell the Vatican. I like it!
BTW, if you get offended easily, find course language inappropriate, or just plain don’t like Sarah … you may want to skip on down the road to some of the other content on the site! Cheers ya’ll!
According to an article in today’s online edition of the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the ESPN Zone in Buckhead is a thing of the past. A notice popped up today informing potential patrons that the sports bar was now closed. With the vast number of sports bars between me and the Zone, I can’t say I made it there frequently. That said, I’m a little surprised to hear about this. According to the article, all of the 140 employees received a 60-day administrative leave package, so that’s nice to hear.

UPDATE: Since this went up, 11-Alive posted a video that talks about the troubled times for Buckhead and its restaurants.
