The King Of Pops Goes To CNN [Videos]

Posted by foodiebuddha on July 04, 2010

Steven Carse, known to you and me as The King of Pops, just went from the sidelines to the headlines.  CNN just ran a little ditty on this fabricant de popsicle.  While I haven’t loved every one of the multitude of popsicle concoctions I’ve sampled, I have appreciated all of them.  My latest craves … the Georgia Peach and the Arnold Palmer.  I just recently snagged me some Arnold Palmer a few days ago and I must say it’s the fohizzy!!!  So sorry @caroline0814 and @katieK004, our arm wrestling match will have to wait until another day.  You can follow Steven’s twitter feed for daily goodness, and check out this post for some background.

Bitter Feast: Food Blogging Is A Dangerous Hobby [Movies]

Posted by foodiebuddha on June 29, 2010

It’s nice to know I have friends in this world.  One such concerned citizen (aka DatealiciousATL) was kind enough to send me this little warning.  Ever wonder what happens when a blogger goes too far?  Well, Thanks to director Joe Maggio, with help from celebrity chef Mario Batali, we now have an answer.

Bitter Feast is a small budget film that debuted just last week.  It’s about JT Franks, an uppity food blogger with a pension for a sharp quill.  No word on if and when it will hit the ATL.  Although you might wish to think otherwise, JT Franks is not an anagram for Foodie Buddha.

Frank Ma Discusses The History Of Buford Highway

Posted by foodiebuddha on June 24, 2010

During some of my intermittent and haphazard internet perusing, I stumbled upon really neat videos by Frank Ma and Eddie Hernandez, two well-known Atlanta chefs.  Ma, who’s followed like a hawk by Atlanta’s Chinese gastronomes, recently sat down to talk about his arrival in the dirty South and the burgeoning food center that runs the length of Buford Highway.  Though Ma has “officially” retired as a restaurateur since his short at Frank Ma South, his word still carries a great deal of weight.   Check out this audio slide show:

Meanwhile, Taqueria Del Sol’s executive chef Eddie Hernandez also showed up … his video after the jump!

The Battle For Milkquarious [Laugh of The Day]

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 26, 2010

As I work through the daily grind, waiting to get back on the hobby horse, I though I’d treat y’all to some rocktastic awesomeness.  Thank Goodby Silverstein for this milktastic sampling and big shout out to Rob (who does cool pictures!) for the tip!  It’s a viral marketing campaign that takes the Got Milk! slogan to awesome new heights.

The Making of The Ghetto Burger At Ann’s Snack Bar [Burger Porn Videos] 8

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 10, 2010

ann's snack bar - oh my god that's huge by foodiebuddha.

All this Atlanta burger chatter got me thinking: “Maybe it’s time for a diet.”  Then, I got a late night request from The Legend (twitter) which brought me to my senses.  Yes, maybe just one more day of gluttony (haven’t we all said that?).

You see, The Legend was taking a few people for a little afternoon birthday party at the world famous Ann’s Snack Bar.  It’s one of the few well known burger joints across our land that claims to be world famous … and really IS.  Despite rumors of its demise, brought on by the dominating Miss Ann herself, the Snack Bar is alive and well in East Atlanta.

Jerry Garcia’s Backstage Kitchen Cooking Demo – Best Cooking Video Ever!

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 06, 2010

Jerry Garcia, the rock god of granola, wasn’t just a snazzy dresser and a hell of an axe man.  Nope, turns out, the Grateful Dead’s front man was also Chef Jerry.  Oh yeah, in case you didn’t know it, Jerry wasn’t a health nut!  I must say though, I’m not surprised to find out he was an accomplished baker. Enjoy …

Chef Jose Andres Hits 60-Minutes 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 03, 2010

José Andrés is one of those chefs I actually go gaga for.  In fact, I’m so batshit crazy that I have a tentative plane flight scheduled for the not too distant future for one reason: To fly to Washington DC for a meal at minibar, one of JA’s kick ass restaurants.   Yup people – the food dork in me is going to get on a plane, fly to another city (cuz that’s what you do on planes), get off said vessel … make a beeline for the Penn Quarter … get my grub on … then return to the plane for the long flight home.  Yeah, I’m run-on sentence chalk full of bastardized punctuation excited.  Okay, enough about me and my pseudo obsession with JA …

Last night, a video segment about Jose Andres aired on CBS’ TV Show 60-Minutes.  The man, who lives just outside of DC, started his career working under the famed Ferran Adria at El Bulli.  Since then, the sky hasn’t even been the limit for Andres.  Awesomeness awaits … just click below:

David Chang Of Momofuku Visits David Letterman On Late Show

Posted by foodiebuddha on April 21, 2010

Last night, while we some of you were sleeping, David Chang of Momofuku showed up on The Late Show with David Letterman.  It was a promotional bit for Chang’s Momofuku cookbook, which you have to buy!  The bit was pretty funny and full of Letterman’s usual antics (cigarette’s in food anyone?).

Chang, who has been on the tongue of gourmand’s for some time, recently spent some time with Creative Loafing, which got a good bit of attention around here in Atlanta.  The New York restaurateur also made waves last year when he and Sotohiro Kosugi showed up in Spain at Madrid Fusion.

Dan Barber On Sustainable Fishing At Ted.com

Posted by foodiebuddha on March 28, 2010

It’s been a while since I last mentioned Dan Barber, the über talented chef/owner of Blue Hill & Blue Hill Farms.  The first time I brought Dan up on this blog, he was chatting up ethical foie gras.  The video in that post came from Ted.com, one of the best websites out there for video content.  Now, Barber is back on Ted.  This time, he covers topics related to sustainable food, specifically in the area of aquatics. :-)   At 20-minutes in length, it’s great watching on a tea break or in between Elite Eight games!

Peter Chang Returns To Atlanta, Pit Stop At Tasty China 2

Posted by foodiebuddha on March 27, 2010

Peter Chang is easily the most talked about Chinese chef over the past few years to plant a flag in Atlanta.  His work is a thing of legend and is the single biggest reason Tasty China caught the attention of so many Chinese food fanatics (myself included).  According to Tom Maicon of Atlanta Cuisine, Chang is back with a vengeance.

After departing our fare city for Nashville, and after a short stay in West [Note To Self: Richmond is not in West Virginia] Virginia (from what I hear), Maicon has confirmed that Chang is back in the Dirty South.  In the short term, PC is setting up shop at TC.  However,  Tasty China owner Dahe Yang plans to open a new restaurant with Chang somewhere in Sandy Springs.

And while we’re at it … everything is better with Rowdy:
