Back in early August, Tomorrow’s News Today reported that famed Decatur restaurant Watershed was on its way to the South Buckhead neighborhood of Brookwood Hills. The details were simply that the restaurant was opening in the Brookwood Condominium complex at 1833 Peachtree Rd. That report was quickly disputed by What Now Atlanta, TNT’s arch nemesis.
Well, it appears that where there was smoke there is indeed fire. An extremely reliable person who is intimately involved confirmed that the deal is indeed on like Donkey Kong. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more public denials; but take those with a grain of salt. How many times has Brett Favre retired?
I’m still not entirely sure if things will happen before the end of the year; but regardless, in terms of rumor versus fact, this has just been given a dramatic shove into the fact department.
Update: Here is the official position of ST Residential:
While we can’t comment on current negotiations, we can confirm that ST Residential is in negotiations with several retail outlets for space at The Brookwood, one of them being a restaurant. We’d be lucky to have one of the caliber of The Watershed.
I’m channeling my inner School House Rock love child with this one. As the best laid schemes of mice and men go oft awry, so too did my plan to have nice juicy review this AM for all your desires of consumption. Something about arriving home at 6AM isn’t conducive to highly detailed activities … so that review is due out at 8:30 tonight (as opposed to 8:30am). I may push it ‘til a future date … we shall see.
Of more importance, is the title of this article. A few days back, I posted on some rumors that were floating around. One of them was with regards to the currently shuttered Watershed. If you check out that post, you’ll see a lot of redactions based on information that was published elsewhere. Well, it turns out more redactions are in order (as in: I can probably un-redact some stuff).
As it stands now, it appears that others are disputing Tomorrow’s News Today’s report that Watershed has signed a new lease. I dunno exactly what’s what at this current moment and we’ll see how this shakes out. TNT published that as a confirmed report as opposed to just a rumor and has not posted any follow up.
People love to give me shit about my rumor posting even though I choose my words carefully and often it’s people’s inability to read what’s actually on a page in front of them that creates the problems. Well that, and I guess they are pissed when I post something that just so happens to be 100% accurate months before they do. Shrug again.
Until we meet again my lovers, my haters, and everyone in between!
Before I skipped town a little over a week ago, I made mention of some rumors. I was hoping to get them posted while I traveled; however, a burned out MoBo and the realization that vacation was for … well … vacationing, left y’all with a stagnate page to stare at. Anywho, while I operate on a bandaged up computer system, here’s what’s happened with those rumors about Decatur’s two most notable higher-end dining establishments …
The James Beard Awards are the United States’ version of the food Oscars. Today, the JB Foundation announced their semifinalists for this years awards.
The winners will be announced in May, so for now all we can do is wait. You can find the full list on the JB website (warning: that’s a pdf). However, we’ll highlight the Atlanta standouts right after the jump!
Lately, Atlanta and its surrounding cities have gotten a lot of attention in the culinary world. Well, chalk another one up for the Dirty. In the April printing, Saveur Magazine has identified Scott Peacock’sWatershed restaurant as one of the “12 Restaurants That Matter.” Though the mention is fairly brief, it is still a nice accomplishment for Watershed. The full list is after the jump!
So thanks to Jimmy for pointing this out to me! I totally glazed over it in my daily reading.
Slashfood is the home to techfoodies. I myself read it every day (and usually with great attention to detail). Recently, they asked their readers to name the best sandwich in America. Well, so long as you made a shout out in the comments, your place got added. I’ve actually been to five of these spots and sorry folk… I love ya’ll but this list is a joke. The list and more after the jump!
Emory University has this awesome “Sustainable Initiative” series. While the evening with Linton Hopkins has come and gone, there are still two lectures left. Tonight is one such night.
These lectures give each chef an opportunity to discuss their participation in the sustainable food movement. In addition, they hand out tips AND give you an opportunity to taste some food! Details after the jump.
So I actually have a ton of work to do right now for my 9-5 … thus, this will be brief. Maybe I’ll come back later to add some context and some links…but in the meantime check out the several Atlanta culinary establishments and personalities that are semi-finalists for the foodie equivalent of the Oscars.
While Atlanta lacks the culinary depth of a place like Chicago, we do quite well at the top. The JBAs certainly seem to agree with me on the second part of that statement.
As an aside: we launched two-months ago today – and I really wanted to write a thank you post and include a little prize for one lucky reader. I don’t have the time right now, so make sure to check back over the weekend (or perhaps Monday) for that post! Okay, onto the list!
