Around The Dirty – Trips To Daddy D’s Barbecue, Flip Burger Boutique, La Pietra Cucina, & Varasano’s Pizzeria [Quick Hits] 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on July 06, 2009

Hope ya’ll had a pleasant weekend. I know I did.  As you might expect, the past few days have left me worn down and fried.  So, rather than pen a full review, first impression, or the like, I have decided to hit ya’ll up with some quick notes about some recent goings-on in the ATL.

5 Seasons Brewing Company Opens In Midtown; Fries My Grits And Screws Up Epically [First Impressions] 15

Posted by foodiebuddha on May 07, 2009

5 seaons brewing company - eating optionsCheck the right hand side … that’s a little eye candy for all you ladies.  Sorry girls, that’s @holtlyda and he is indeed, off the market.  Meanwhile, a conversation at 5 Seasons Brewing Company:

Oliver Twist: Please sir, I want some more.
Mr. Bumble: [thinking he must not have heard right] What?
Oliver Twist: Please sir, I want some…
[pauses hesitatingly]
Oliver Twist: more?
Mr. Bumble: [surprised beyond belief] More?

So that’s how it rolled pretty much all night.  However, in this case … the roll reversal was frequent. Confused?  Don’t worry, we’ll clarify the disaster over the next few minutes.

Every restaurant goes through growing pains.  Given that “certainty,” growing pains, at least in my mind, are defined as much by the solutions as they are by the problems.  The problems from Tuesday were ALMOST unforgivable.

Star Provisions In Midtown: Atlanta Sub & Sandwich Tour #10 5

Posted by foodiebuddha on April 20, 2009

star provisions - the starOh Atlanta S&S Tour, how I have missed you!  Travel, temporary sandwich burn out, and life in general caused me to miss a few weeks.  What better way to get back in the saddle than with a trip to Star Provisions.  In the realm of high-end gourmet shops, SP seems to garner a near godlike appreciation amongst Atlanta socialites.  I myself am a big fan; over the years I have enjoyed everything from their wine and cheeses, to their sandwiches, to their eating accessories.  But alas, this is the sandwich tour … so with my blinders firmly in place, my camera in hand (UGGHGHGHGHGH), and some help … off to the principal’s office we go! [Sorry – my childhood rears it’s ugly head!]

The Week Upcoming

Posted by foodiebuddha on April 20, 2009

It’s Monday morning, we haven’t even hit the witching hour, and already I fell swamped with work.  So it might be late this evening before I get my first “good” post up for today.  That said, I wanted to give ya’ll a little sneak peek of what to expect…

  • As soon as I hit publish on this post, I’m hitting the showers and getting all spiffed up … lunch today is at Paces 88, the freshly minted restaurant at the St Regis in Buckhead.  I can’t wait to see what Jonathan Jerusalmy is all about. Expect my notes on that manana.
  • Last week, I dropped in over at Star Provisions for the latest Atlanta Sub & Sandwich Tour meal.  I’ll work on that post this evening.
  • I still have two posts two finish up from my vacation.  Though neither of those meals was as good as my trip to the Swiss Hot Dog Company … Terra Bistro and Pepi’s were still notable meals.  One of them … for all the wrong reasons.
  • Expect at least one more sub tour stop!

Buddha … out!

Hop City Beer And Wine Opens In The Brickworks … Free Drinks Tomorrow!!!! 2

Posted by foodiebuddha on April 01, 2009

Hot on the tails of the newest 5 Seasons location, Hop City Beer is opening in the Brickworks, that new complex over on the West End of the city.  Though I’m not a beer fan by any stretch of the imagination (the other day, I had my first one in 5 years), I can’t wait to see what this place packs.

On Thursday, April 2 (that’s tomorrow), there is a grand opening celebration.  The store touts itself as “Atlanta’s first craft beer specialty store.”  Basically, this is a liquor store without the liquor … and a WHOLE HECK of a lot more beer.  According to the email they sent out, they will stock over 1,000 flavors of beer and more than 600 types of wine.  For those who like to get adventurous, they also carry home brewing equipment.

As for the party itself – there will be a plethora of free beer samples, live music, and some grub.  It runs from 6-9 and is free to everyone.  CL ran a more in depth preview on the 30th. As of this writing, their website is not up.

Hop City Beer Address & Information:
1000 Marietta St. NW Atlanta, GA 30318 // P: 404.667.0497 // Hop City Website

Five Seasons Brewing Company In Midtown Atlanta Scheduled For April 1st Opening Date 7

Posted by foodiebuddha on March 11, 2009

5-seasons-westside5 Seasons Brewing Co., the multi-location Atlanta pub, is expanding.  The new spot, dubbed 5 Seasons Westside, is slated to open April 1st at the corner of Marietta St and Howell Mill.  This will be the third location for the company and the three-flight space looks pretty nice (it was nice enough that movie folk reportedly filmed bits of Road Trip 2 here).

As you may have surmised, they are known for their in-house beer brewing.  The equipment for this location appears to be in place and I’m pretty confident they can make their April 1 deadline.  Whether that happens remains to be seen.  I’m going to go ahead and add it to the April Dirty List (not yet published).

Hitting The Town With Your Peeps? Good Restaurants In Atlanta For Groups 5

Posted by foodiebuddha on March 03, 2009

A friend of mine was asking me for advice on where to go for her birthday.  I realized by the time we were done … that was good fodder for a post. This is by no means an attempt to offer up a “definitive” list of party grub in the Dirty.  Rather, here are just a few spots that seem to work well for when you want to hang with your crew.  The focus here isn’t as much on the food as it is on the experience.  That said, *most* of these offer up serviceable grub.  The list after the jump!

Atlanta Shows Strong For The 2009 James Beard Awards Semi-finals 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on February 13, 2009

james_beard1-300x277So I actually have a ton of work to do right now for my 9-5 … thus, this will be brief.  Maybe I’ll come back later to add some context and some links…but in the meantime check out the several Atlanta culinary establishments and personalities that are semi-finalists for the foodie equivalent of the Oscars.

While Atlanta lacks the culinary depth of a place like Chicago, we do quite well at the top.  The JBAs certainly seem to agree with me on the second part of that statement. :-)

As an aside: we launched two-months ago today – and I really wanted to write a thank you post and include a little prize for one lucky reader.  I don’t have the time right now, so make sure to check back over the weekend (or perhaps Monday) for that post!  Okay, onto the list!

Flip Burger Boutique To Expand 1

Posted by foodiebuddha on January 25, 2009

As Jimmy divulged, Richard Blais announced via twitter that three more Flip locations will open soon.  There is no word yet on whether these are traditional franchise locations, or something else.

Word (via Richard and some other sources) is that one of those locations will be in East Atlanta.  The other locations are Washington DC and another, still be determined, city.  Will keep you posted!

Address: 1587 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 // P: 404.352.3547 // Website // Menu (pdf)
